With a good spread of OPs from across the decades represented, the classes of 1965, 1975, 1985, 1995, 2000, 2005, and 2015 were brought together along with OPs from other leaving year groups for a nostalgic day of reminiscing as they reconnected with their old school.
The day began with a warm welcome as OPs arrived on campus to register and find their contemporaries.
The school archive displays carefully curated by archivist, Doc Dyson, proved popular, sparking many memories and encouraging lively conversations throughout the day.
At 11:00am, the traditional OP vs. School 1st XI cricket match commenced, featuring a strong team of recent leavers. The match provided a relaxed and enjoyable backdrop to the morning’s activities.
Lunch was fully booked and as OPs poured into the dining hall to take their seats the atmosphere was buzzing! As in previous years, tables were organised by year group so OPs could have meaningful catch-ups with each other. OP President Charlie Lambert (01–08) and External Relations Director, Sheena McNamee, representing Headmaster Toby Seth, welcomed guests and provided a brief update on the school.
Following lunch, the afternoon activities began. As well as the continuation of the cricket match and archive visits, the afternoon programme consisted of the OP/Edmund-Loten tennis matches, tours of the school, and afternoon tea in the dining hall to finish.
With the cricket ongoing, and a successful day of reminiscing complete, the event drew to a close. Many OPs expressed their appreciation for the opportunity to return to school and reconnect with old friends. The combination of good weather, engaging activities, and a strong turnout contributed to a successful and memorable day.
Comments included:
“Thank you and the team so much for organising such an enjoyable and informative day last Sunday. Leanne’s guided tour was particularly interesting. The school has, of course, changed out of all recognition since 1964/5 when I remember trudging into school from the railway station!”
“Many thanks for organising yesterday’s reunion. We all enjoyed it and catching up with a few of my contemporaries was very interesting. The playing fields looked immaculate, and the buildings have been carefully added to.”
“It was a true pleasure to see the school and its development since I left. I was astounded by the upgrades and such even though I did feel well provided for back then.”
“Thanks for a superbly well organised and enjoyable OP day yesterday. It was great to see such a high attendance … Very nice food and company. I thought that there was a superb display of archive material … it must have taken a lot of time and effort to get it all together, so well done, Doc."
