As part of the Pock Connects programme of talks, Pocklington School was delighted to welcome Old Pocklingtonian Ed Dare (11-18) back to campus for a Q&A session with first-year A Level Business and BTEC Enterprise students. As founder of Drumup, a specialist sales agency based in Edinburgh, Ed shared his journey into entrepreneurship, offering valuable insights into the challenges and rewards of starting a business.

Ed began his visit as the guest speaker at the Sixth Form assembly. During his presentation, he highlighted the benefits of Pock Connects – the Pocklington School and OP business network – and how it played an important role in helping him connect with experienced professionals, gain insights into business practices, and develop the confidence to follow his chosen path into entrepreneurship. His talk emphasised the power of networking in creating opportunities and the importance of building meaningful connections within the Pocklington School community and beyond.

Following the assembly, Ed participated in an engaging Q&A session hosted by Gareth Shephard, Head of Economics, Business and Enterprise. Students had the opportunity to ask questions about Ed’s experiences and seek advice on starting their own ventures. The session sparked thoughtful discussion and inspired many budding entrepreneurs to consider their own business ideas.

Ed said: “It was great to come back and speak with students who are just beginning to explore the world of business and consider the opportunities available to them after they leave school. I hope sharing my story helps them with their next steps.”

Gareth Shephard commented: “We extend our sincere thanks to the OP Office team for helping organise this enriching event, and to Ed for his time, enthusiasm, and commitment to supporting the next generation of Pocklington School entrepreneurs. We’re excited to hear that Ed plans to offer internships at Drumup to Pocklington students in the future which will offer them an incredible opportunity for hands-on business experience.”

OPs and members of the Pocklington School community interested in connecting with the Pock Connects network, or sharing their career journeys, are encouraged to contact the OP Office, or to join the Pock Connects group on LinkedIn.
