As part of Pocklington School’s ‘Adventure Ready’ commitment to preparing its young people for life beyond the classroom, Pock Connects provides invaluable opportunities to explore careers and gain real-world insights. This unique network connects current students with Old Pocklingtonians (OPs), parents, and other members of the Pocklingtonian community working across a wide range of industries.

One recent example shows the programme in action. When Jack, a Lower Sixth student, began thinking about his future, he knew he wanted to learn more about careers in finance and investment banking. Inspired by a Pock Connects network member profile he saw in School, Jack decided to follow it up with Mrs Dare in the OP office. A few weeks later, a series of Teams calls were arranged with OPs at various stages of their careers in the sector. These conversations gave Jack the chance to hear about real-life career journeys, ask questions, gain insider knowledge, and pick up practical advice for breaking into the field.

Jack found the experience invaluable. Hearing directly from OPs helped him understand the skills and qualities employers look for, consider his university and course options, and feel more confident as he plans his next steps beyond School.

Rachel Dare, who coordinates the programme, commented:

“Pock Connects is all about connections and real conversations with people who’ve been there and done it. It’s a brilliant way for students to find out what different careers are really like and pick up valuable tips and insights. OPs and network members enjoy it too; it’s a chance for them to share their experiences and give something back to the School.”

Thanks go to Conor Sacks (99-10), Archie Kneeshaw (12-20), Shreyas Gopal (05-14), and Samuel Robinson (84-91) for taking time out of their busy work schedules to talk with Jack.

Whether you’re a student curious about your next steps, or an OP or Pocklington School community member willing to share your expertise, Pock Connects is here to make those conversations happen and build a network that supports every Pocklingtonian at any stage of their career journey.
