Professional rugby league player Ben McNamara (16-20) recently visited Pocklington School, bringing with him two framed shirts – one from his time at Hull FC and one from his current club, Leigh Leopards. These will soon be displayed in School and were a much‑appreciated donation.

Ben, who was born in Beverley in 2001, has steadily built his career since making his professional debut with Hull FC in 2020. Across 61 first‑class appearances, he has scored 6 tries and 53 goals, showing consistency both at Hull FC and later at Leigh Leopards. Since joining Leigh Leopards in 2024, he has broadened his role from a goalkicking halfback to also cover hooker, learning from PNG international Edwin Ipape.

His time at Leigh has included several notable highlights, including a try on his debut against his former club and a strong performance at Magic Weekend, where he scored a key try and kicked five goals against Catalan Dragons, then coached by his father, Steve McNamara. He recently signed a contract extension through to the end of 2026 and continues to be recognised at the club for his work ethic and versatility.

Ben’s visit came just ahead of an interesting weekend fixture with Leigh Leopards facing Hull FC in the fourth round of the Challenge Cup – a timely reminder of his journey between the two clubs!
