At the end of the Summer Term, Lower Sixth students gained valuable life skills during a Financial Literacy session led by Old Pocklingtonian Josh Papa (96-03) as part of Pocklington School’s wider Adventure Ready Programme.

The session arranged through the Pock Connects network was designed to help students develop a stronger understanding of personal finance and make informed financial decisions as they prepare for life beyond school. Covering topics such as budgeting, saving, borrowing and mortgages, Josh drew on his experience in the finance sector and his role as Director of Apex Mortgage & Protection to share practical advice, real-world examples and valuable insights.

Students responded positively to the session, with many commenting on how useful and relevant they found it.

Helen Alexander, Deputy Head of Sixth Form, commented:

“We are incredibly grateful to Josh for supporting our Adventure Ready Programme. The students were highly engaged throughout the session, and the feedback was overwhelmingly positive. Financial literacy is such an important skill for young people, and Josh’s practical approach helped make the subject both accessible and relevant. We are very fortunate to have OPs who are willing to share their expertise in this way, and we hope to continue to draw on this wealth of expertise.”

Despite the challenge of presenting during a summer heatwave, Josh kept students engaged throughout, delivering a session that was both informative and enjoyable.

The School extends its sincere thanks to Josh for giving his time and sharing his expertise. Sessions like these demonstrate the value of the Pock Connects network, helping students benefit from the knowledge and experience of OPs and members of the wider School community as they prepare for life beyond Pocklington.

Whether you’re a student curious about your next steps, or an OP or Pocklington School community member willing to share your expertise, Pock Connects is here to make those conversations happen and build a network that supports every Pocklingtonian at any stage of their career journey.
