Over the next 24 hours, Jack Woodhead (13-20), James Rial (16-20), and Johnny Raper (15-22) successfully summited Ben Nevis, Scafell Pike, and Yr Wyddfa (Snowdon), covering a total of 38 kilometres and climbing a combined elevation of 2,975 metres.
Their motivation for the challenge came when James was recently diagnosed with a rare form of localised scleroderma known as ‘en coup de sabre’, an autoimmune condition primarily affecting the skin and connective tissue.
Johnny said: “None of us had heard of this condition before. As we learnt more about it, we realised that there are many people living with autoimmune diseases, that are often overlooked or misunderstood. It got us thinking about what we could do to help raise awareness and support ongoing research, so we decided to take on the Three Peaks.”
Despite facing adverse weather, limited training time, and logistical setbacks – including traffic delays and an unfortunate injury just minutes into the first climb when Jack twisted his ankle on a loose rock – the team pressed on. Much of their journey was completed under torchlight, navigating rugged terrain in darkness as well as daylight.
By the following morning, they had completed all three peaks and raised over £2,400 for their chosen cause.
James said: “We are extremely grateful for the generous support and donations we received, and proud to have completed the challenge for a cause which is so personal to me. I can’t thank Jack and Johnny enough for their friendship and support.”
