Due to a clash of dates, this year’s golf event saw a change of venue from the Oaks Golf Club at Aughton to the KP Club just outside Pocklington. Held on Friday 7 June, seven teams took to the fairways on a blustery but (thankfully) dry day to play for the President’s Cup.
Despite the extended spell of wet weather that has been experienced in recent months, the greens and fairways were in excellent condition although the KP’s challenging course combined with windy conditions tested the players. The halfway house provided a welcome break during the rounds with sausage rolls, cakes and drinks to sustain the teams.
As well as the main competition, players could take part in nearest the pin, nearest the pin in two, and the longest drive. The club pro also provided golfers with the opportunity to enter the ‘beat the pro’ raffle competition on hole 15 to add an extra bit of excitement to proceedings.
At the end of the afternoon, teams gathered for drinks in the bar followed by a two-course supper and prize presentations hosted by OP President, Charlie Lambert (01-08).
In the team competition, a draw (76 points) for second place went to countback with the Hopeful Herons’ better back nine clinching it over the Awesome Foursome who took third place. Overall winners by quite a margin were Golf Day debutants, The Bandits, with a score of 84. Congratulations!
Full results including the winners of the individual prizes are summarised below.
Thank you to Toby Gowthorpe and the team at the KP Club for hosting an excellent day of golf, and to all our golf teams for taking part.
