On Wednesday 21 October, Pocklington School was delighted to welcome Old Pocklingtonians Jessica Pidgeon (05-16) and Tom Needler (13-17) back to School recently as guest speakers at the OP Sixth Form assembly where they shared their experiences of life after Pock and how they have progressed in their chosen careers.

Both Jess and Tom were recognised in the Hull & Humber Top 30 Under 30 Awards 2026 recognising the impact they're making as young leaders in the region. During the assembly they shared insights into their career journeys so far, reflecting on some of the challenges they have encountered and the lessons they have learnt along the way.

A particularly reassuring message for students was not to worry if plans change or they decide to take a different direction. There is plenty of time to work out what you want to do, and to find the path that is right for you. Careers do not always follow a straight line, and sometimes changing direction or starting again can simply be part of finding where you want to be and achieving success.

Following the assembly, Jess and Tom enjoyed a tour of the School including the new Sixth Form Centre and had the chance to catch up with some of their former teachers, making the visit even more special.

Charlie Lambert (01-08), OP President and Lower School Housemaster, said: “It’s always fantastic to welcome OPs back to Pocklington and for current pupils to hear first-hand about where life after School can take them. Jess and Tom are great examples of the breadth of experience within our OP community, and we’re hugely grateful to them for giving their time to share their stories and advice with the Sixth Form. This is exactly what the OP network is all about, staying connected and supporting the next generation of Old Pocklingtonians.”

A huge thank you to Jess and Tom for coming back to School and sharing their experiences with the Sixth Form.
