With the weather set fair and the course in tip-top condition, this year’s annual golf tournament at The Oaks Golf Club on Friday 8 May 2015 was one of the best yet.
Hosted by the Old Pocklingtonian Association and sponsored by SG Petch Ltd, this annual event is for all members, past and present, of the Pocklington School community and their friends, and is open to all ages and abilities. It was lovely to see so many former pupils, former parents, current parents and staff enjoying the day together.
The Nutt family and their team at The Oaks gave everyone a warm welcome and the service and hospitality was excellent. Once again, the half-way house was kindly provided by school governor and former parent, Jill Atkinson – her home-baking is legendary and one of the highlights of the day for many. As in previous years, the family-run car dealership S G Petch kindly sponsored a hole-in-one competition for the main prize of a Fiat 500 car on the 7th hole and several ancillary prizes on the other 3-par holes. Sadly there were no hole-in-one winners on the day, but with the Tom Nash President’s Cup and the main tournament prizes still at stake, there was all to play for.
Here are the results:
1st Prize and The Tom Nash President’s Cup Winners 2015: The Oaks – Joe Butcher (94-06), Ed Nutt (95-06), Craig Johnson (94-04), Jack Bolam (96-05) – 86 points
2nd Prize: Siepe Sports – Mike Strong (66-76), David Morgan (68-75), Andrew Cox, Nathan Gregson – 85 points (Nathan went round in 68 gross which is an exceptional score)
3rd Prize: DB Agriculture Ltd – Darren Beattie (89-00), Aiden Beattie, Anita Beattie, Adrian Glew – 81 points (tied with Pocklington Staff but won on count back)
Nearest the pin: Andy Cox of Siepe Sports
Nearest the pin in two: Roger Shaw (52-62) of Westwood Wanderers
Longest drive: Nathan Gregson of Siepe Sports
After supper in the newly refurbished club house, Mark Ronan, Headmaster of Pocklington School, gave a short address before handing over to OP President, Andrew Wilson (89-99), for the results and prize presentations to end the day.
Thank you again to the Nutt family for their hospitality at The Oaks Golf Club, to SG Petch for sponsoring the hole-in-one competition, to Jill Atkinson for the half-way house, to Joan Gough (75-77) for her help on the day, to Georgina Booth (96-06) for her help organising the event, and to all the teams for taking part and making it such an enjoyable day.
The date for the 5th Annual Pocklingtonian Golf Day in 2016 will be announced shortly. In the meantime, please help to spread the word and see you next year!
