From the streets of East Yorkshire to the catwalks of New York and Paris, OP Rainer Iveson (05-07) has had quite a journey.
Having graced the pages of Vogue, GQ and Cosmopolitan and fronted campaigns for brands such as Hugo Boss, Levi’s and Louis Vuitton, the 24-year-old from Huggate is fast becoming one of the names to watch in the world of fashion.
He was only 15 when he was spotted, while on holiday in Spain. Much like a photo shoot, he was walking towards the beach with his young brother, carrying a body board on his shoulder.
As fate would have it, he wandered past the holiday home of Tandy Anderson, founder and owner of Select Model Management, one of the world’s top agencies, which has represented stars such as Mischa Barton, Kelly Brook and Sienna Miller. Tandy wasted no time in signing him up.
Despite a life in front of the lens from a young age, Rainer has just graduated from Queen Mary, University of London, with a law degree. However, the jet-setting lifestyle of a model does not mesh well with the library-bound commitments of a dutiful law student. While he was not able to always strike a balance – he had to re-sit his second year – he came out the other side with a degree to his name.
As if juggling modelling and his studies was not enough, he was also the star of the university rugby team. A keen player since he was 13, it was not a pastime the model agency was particularly fond of.
Modelling has taken Rainer around the world to pose for various brands. He said: “Timberland is one of the best shoots I’ve ever done, we went up to the Yukon and saw the Aurora Borealis and did husky rides. When we were shooting, we took helicopters to the top of the mountains.”
Despite the success he has found in the fashion world, Rainer is working hard to broaden his horizons. Having just graduated from university, he is in his second month of a job with a marketing agency looking after the company’s clients and work on advertising deals.
