The annual OP London dinner was held on Friday 22 November 2013 at the prestigious Lansdowne Club in Berkeley Square thanks to Charles Marshall (98-09) and his family who are all club members.
Record numbers attended the dinner with 148 guests booked in for the event, almost double the usual turnout.
The dinner featured an exclusive performance by OP Alexandra Dariescu (01-03). Alexandra, was a Romanian music scholar at Pocklington and is now a highly acclaimed concert pianist. She made her debut at the Royal Albert Hall with the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra in June 2013 and won the Woman of the Future Award for Arts and Culture in November 2013. At the dinner she played Beethoven’s Sonata op 10 no 2, Chopin Prelude no 15 “Raindrop” and Silvestri Bacchanale to the delight of OPs and guests. Alexandra was also interviewed and filmed at the dinner by Romanian National Television. Click here to watch the programme featuring some familar faces from school!
Speeches were made by Mark Ronan, Headmaster and Tom Nash (68-77), OP President. The guest speaker was Peter Edwards (80-13), former Head of Art, who regaled the audience with stories and anecdotes of his 33 years at the school.
Committee member, Sophie Guest (03-10), organised an after party at a local night club for the younger crowd and others went on to the Dover Street Wine Bar to continue the evening which for some ran into the early hours of Saturday morning!
“This is the biggest dinner we have done so far in my time as President, there was a real buzz and I hope this is a trend that will continue. Certainly there is a lot of interest already for next year’s dinner at Haberdashers’ Hall to celebrate the school’s 500th. It is another fantastic venue for next year but places are limited and as an exception for the quincentenary it will be open to current parents, so I would urge OPs to book their places early!” commented Tom Nash.
Booking details for next year’s dinner in 2014 will be posted on the website soon, so watch this space and make sure you book early! For all enquiries please contact Rachel Dare.
