This year’s Birkdale Bucket took place 18-20 March at the world famous Woodhall Spa Golf Course in Lincolnshire, and followed the same time honoured itinerary; informal golf on Friday afternoon, the 18 Hole Stableford on Saturday morning for the Birkdale Bucket and the Sunday morning foursomes for the Hinchcliffe Tankards, all played on the fabulous Hotchkin course.
The OP Golf Society fielded a team and thank the Wennigers for their late participation. The team’s four best scores of 113 needed an excellent score from Mark Addison to save any wooden spoon embarrassment: Tim Russell (68-78) 29, Larry Lawson (70-77) 25, Mike Strong (66-76) 24 and Mark Addison (69-76) 35.
Despite a poor outward nine, Mark managed to come home in level par to rescue the team score and also win the individual event for the coveted Hinchcliffe Spade, on a better back nine.
Sadly the weekend success finished there with no-one in the money from the Sunday foursomes.
Looking forward, the 2017 dates are 17-19 March again at Woodhall Spa one of the World’s top 100 golf courses. We urgently need some new players and the event suits anyone up to 24 handicap, who would like to play. There is an optional practise round on the Friday, then golf on both Saturday and Sunday morning. We play against 10 other schools in a friendly but competitive environment.
