Brookfield Group’s new £2m Pocklington Services Shell in East Yorkshire was officially opened by OP Brian Madderson (53-63) on 31 October 2014.
The opening was marked by a two-day event with a visit from a Ferrari Formula 1 racing car, giveaways and a wide range of in-store offers. The service station was officially opened by the chairman of Petrol Retailers’ Association, Brian Madderson, as well as the local mayor, councillor, town crier and representatives from Shell. The site features a Nisa Local under the Store of the Future format, a Subway, Costa Coffee, Fresh Bake bakery and amenities including a free cash machine and car valeting.
Brian said: “This is a fantastic facility and exemplifies the roadside retail concept. It is an outstanding new site reflecting the retail skills and entrepreneurship of Aziz, Raj Patel and brothers, a family owned partnership since 1992. PRA is delighted to count The Brookfield Group as one of its most supportive members”
During his visit to the area, Brian, who lives in Kent, took the opportunity to have a tour of Pocklington School with his wife Jane. He said “It was probably 45 years ago that I was last in the area and it was a maiden visit for Jane. We both really enjoyed our guided tour. It was fascinating to see the change of use of so many older buildings that held memories for me and equally interesting to see the new developments such as the wonderful Tom Stoppard Theatre.”
