James Wilkinson (99-10) who plays lock for Pocklington 1st XV, recently sent in a tweet to @EnglandRugby’s #winstuart competition and won! The prize was a training session for the club with England Head Coach, Stuart Lancaster.
Lancaster, who had already been down to the club a few days before to do the Pock 7s draw, took a full session for the seniors and under 17s and commented afterwards: “That was a good run out. I was impressed with how well they all did, especially the youngsters. I love coaching, I’d do this kind of thing more if I could.”
The England coach also stayed on the pitch afterwards to pose for photographs with groups of mini rugby players and parents who had been watching the training session. England Rugby’s website manager, Steve Jones, was also on hand to film the session and send a commentary to the England Rugby Twitter feed. He explained that the Pocklington session was part of a Twickenham initiative to support community clubs.
Lancaster delivered a non-stop session that kept the players constantly in the action, and James, who’s tweet a couple of months earlier had made it all happen, summed up the players’ response: “It was hard work but great fun, everyone really got a lot out of it.”
