Taking part in OP sport is a great way for OPs to keep in touch with their contemporaries and meet other Old Pocklingtonians. OPs have regular fixtures throughout the year in rugby, rugby 7s, hockey, cricket, tennis and golf. These are listed in Forthcoming Events.
There are currently two regular annual rugby events: the annual OP XV v Pocklington RUFC 1st XV Boxing Day rugby match at PRUFC Percy Road and the Good Friday Pock 7s also at PRUFC Percy Road. To get involved contact Henry Mitchell (1991-2002) or the OP Office
The main OP cricket fixture is at the annual OP Summer Reunion at school in June when the OP 1st and 2nd XI take on the school 1st and 2nd XI. It is a great way to catch up with friends and enjoy some cricket together. The OP team welcomes players of all abilities and experience so if you are interested in a game please contact the OP cricket co-ordinator Henry Mitchell (1991-2002)
OPs may also be interested in playing for the Pocklington Pixies cricket team. Founded in 1956 by Mike Stevenson (English Master and Cambridge cricket blue), the aim of the Pixies was, and still is, to encourage cricket within the Pocklington School community, drawing players from amongst pupils, OPs and staff. The Pixies have regular fixtures in the summer months including an annual tour. For further details about the Pixies or if you would like to get involved, please contact Malcolm Milne (1955-1962)
The OP Golf Society plays in regular tournaments including the Grafton Morrish cup and the prestigious Birkdale Bucket. Alex Lewis (1985-1994) and Stephen St Quinton (1964-1974) co-ordinate the OP golf team and any OPs interested in playing golf are encouraged to get in touch with them – new players always welcome!
There is also an annual OP Golf Day which is open to OPs of all ages and abilities as well as the wider Pocklington School community including current and former parents, friends and staff. To get involved contact OP Office.
The annual OP v school hockey fixture in March has been a long standing tradition which in recent years has been expanded to include both a men’s and a ladie’s OP team to take on the school 1st teams. All ages and abilities are welcome to take part so please get in touch with the OP Office if you are interested. The OPs are keen to expand the number of players involved, particularly ladies, so please help if you can. Spectators are also welcome to come and watch the matches and join staff and players in the pavilion afterwards for post-match refreshments.
OP v School tennis matches, ladies and men’s, take place every year at the OP Summer Reunion. New players are always welcome and players who are willing to play regularly at this annual event are encouraged to contact the OP Office.
