Bob Sutherland (38-42) and his wife Margaret recently celebrated their diamond wedding anniversary. The couple who live in Pocklington, met in 1948 at the Regal Ballroom in Beverley and tied the knot on 25 March 1954 at St John’s Church, Newland, Hull. They celebrated with a special family dinner with their three children, seven grandchildren and one great grandson. Their son, Guy, also attended Pocklington from 1974-1981.
Margaret said “I think the key to a long marriage is compatibility. We have been a good team.” Bob said: “We more or less think alike.”
Bob was born in Hull and attended the Marist and Hymers College in Hull before joining Pocklington School. On leaving school, Bob joined the Gordon Highlanders regiments and saw active service during the Second World War. Bob later worked in the leather manufacturing industry and the couple lived in Hull, Somerset and then Cheshire before moving back to Yorkshire.
